Guy “Billy Guy” Edward Mitchell, 85, of Lynchburg passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, May 24, 2022. He was the husband of the late Nancy Carol Clowdis Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was born in Lynchburg, January 6, 1937 a son of the late William Edward Mitchell and Jessie Hendricks Mitchell. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from BWXT after 31 years. He is survived by five daughters, Faye Payne (David Pratt), Kaye Mitchell (Lanette), Mae Hamlet (David), Gaye Jordan (Kenneth), Billie Wray Nuckols (Jason); 11 grandchildren, Joe Payne, Jacquie Hodges, Jeff Jordan, Matt Hamlet, Toni Bryant, Kasey Bradley, Jessi Drinkard, Jake, Jonah, Jodie and Jacie Wray Nuckols; and 14 great-grandchildren. Like St. Francis of Assisi, the patron Saint of Animals, he had an affinity and affection for all animals, both wild and domesticated. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2022 at Providence Baptist Church, Red House, by Pastor Matt Laskey with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the grave. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
