Obituaries

James Edward Bailey, Sr., 81, of Phenix passed away Friday, May 3, 2024 at his residence. He was the husband of Mary Chenault Bailey. James was born in Charlotte County, November 28, 1942, son of the late Clifford Charles Bailey and the late Addie Holt Bailey. He was a member of Rough Creek Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, was Vice President of Rough Creek Cemetery and a farmer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Bailey; three grandchildren, MariLynn Frank, William Frank, and Tromaine Hurt all of Phenix; four great-grandchildren, Chanze, Zavion, Eddason, and Wynter; sister and brother in-laws; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Bailey, Jr. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Rough Creek Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. William Chrystal with interment to follow in Rough Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at the residence other times.
