John Milton Poindexter, 94, of Phenix, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at home. He was the husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Scruggs Poindexter. John was born in Charlotte County on July 4, 1929, a son of the late John Robinson Poindexter and the late Janie Pillow Poindexter. He was a lifetime farmer and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, John is survived by: son Clark Poindexter (Rhonda) of Phenix; daughter: Rhonda Poindexter Beale (Chris) of Kilmarnock, VA; five grandchildren: John Paul Poindexter (Crystal), Brian Poindexter (Hannah), Danielle Poindexter Williams (Matthew), Jessica Beale Gilman (Tyler) and Kristin Beale Gupta (Christopher); six great grandchildren: John Milton Poindexter, Janie Louise Poindexter, Marshall Gilman, Rose Mary Gilman, Malachi Gupta and Shaylah Lowe; and sister, Colleen Andrews of Phenix. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Jean P. Driver, June P. Bayton and Harriett P. Mason and a brother, Jack Poindexter. A Funeral Service will be held at Midway Baptist Church on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Chris Kesler officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Poindexter family cemetery at Seneca (600 Seneca Rd., Gladys, VA 24554) with Rev. Shelton Miles officiating at graveside. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service and other times at the home.
