Obituaries

Mamie Childress Evans, 92, of Charlotte Court House graduated peacefully in her sleep at home.  Wednesday, May 28, 2014.  She loved the Lord and her family very much.  She was the wife of the late George Stockley Evans. Mrs. Evans was born in Charlotte County, August 13, 1921 a daughter of the late Wirt Henry Childress and Helen Johnson Childress.  She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a former employee of Burlington Industries. She is survived by three sons, George Lewis Evans (Elizabeth Faye), John Wesley Evans (Vicky), Charles Henry Evans (Debbie) all of Charlotte Court House; one daughter, Marie E. Eades (Jimmy) of Gladys; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Janie Evans of Phenix and Nell Sims of Drakes Branch.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty E. Martin; three brothers, Warren, Willie John and Joe Childress; two sisters, Martha and Ruth Childress. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, May 30, 2014 at Tabernacle Baptist Church by Rev. Woody Hudson with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall and at the residence other times. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
