Patricia Matherly Shumaker, 72, of Naruna, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Patricia was born in Lynchburg on May 14, 1954, the daughter of the late Joseph Francis Matherly and the late Mary Eggleston Smith. She was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Brookneal Baptist Church. She retired as secretary at Henderson Funeral Home. She is survived by two daughters, Dana Younger (Nathan) of Henrico and Kimberly Puri (Paul) of Tracy, California; six grandchildren, Jacob Adams of Gladys, Megan and Elizabeth Puri of Tracy, California, Raven and Carmen Shumaker of Brookneal and Rylan Younger of Henrico; sister, Hilda Fifer of Lynchburg; a special cousin, Sharon Daubenspeck and mother-in-law, Josephine “Daisy” Shumaker. Patricia was preceded in death by her son, Dustin Harris Shumaker; sister, Linda Lou Matherly, stepfather, Walter “Plunky” Smith; a special aunt, Dorothy Throckmorton and grandparents, Edna and Buck Eggleston. Rev. Andrew Reisberg will conduct a Memorial Service at Brookneal Baptist Church on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Patrick Henry Family Services or to Friends of Campbell Co. Animal Control.
