Phyllis Asher Guthrie Neal, 94, of Brookneal, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at her home. She was the wife first of the late Hugh M. Guthrie and secondly, the late William Page Neal, Sr. Phyllis was born in Lynchburg on October26, 1928, a daughter of the late William Joseph Asher and the late Nannie Harvey Asher. She was a lifelong member of Falling River Baptist Church in Brookneal and an associate member of Mountain View United Methodist Church in Forest. She felt so blessed to be part of Centra Hospice and the American Red Cross. She is survived by sons, Alton A. Guthrie (Brenda) of Rustburg and L. Greg Guthrie (Teresa) of Nathalie; daughter Nancy G. Moseley (Michael) of Brookneal; stepsons Joe, Dan and Steven Neal; stepdaughter Ann Mauger; grandchildren Brendan, Dylan and Hannah Guthrie, Casey Daniels, Libby Simmons, Hunter Moseley, Makenzie Taylor and Jasmine Hodgett. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son Hugh Michael Guthrie, grandson Daniel Asher Guthrie and daughter-in-law Martha Guthrie. A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Brian Hart at Falling River Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023. The family will receive friends at the home of Derek and Casey Daniels in Brookneal and in the church Fellowship Hall following the service.
